this weekend has been one long comedown
i was exhausted & exhilarated from the opening
i couldn’t have asked for a better opening
the art was well hung and perfectly lit
the gallery had accented the work with
several stunning floral arrangements,
the champagne & wine were flowing,
and the amazing jason hutto brought
it all to life with his amazing keyboard skills
the gallery was packed with a healthy dose
of my wonderful friends, family & coworkers
and tons of people that I hadn’t forced to attend
it was only when i would escape to the bathroom
that the enormity of the whole thing really hit me
and i’ve been happily hung over ever since

well my first solo show is officially open!
artist reception is this friday
i spent all of sunday installing a hanging sculpture
in the front window of the gallery
while my show was being hung
and that’s when the excitement really hit
i’m really proud of these new works!
now i gotta give out some love to the
blogs that mentioned my show!
DC Stlye Magazine amusingly
took issue with the title of the show
Speaking of titles, lovin’ this one
remaking le slum historique,
a blog about the Shaw neighborhood that mentioned the show

my friend lauren gave me this daily horoscope calendar
and so far it has been pretty tuned into my wavelength
i think this horoscope really sums up the work in my show
until recently i mostly considered myself a sculptor
i’ve always drawn but it was hidden within my sketchbook
between those pages anything was possible,
i could place people in this crazy abstract world
that my sculptures inhabited, it was loose & free
real, serious drawing always freaked me out
i didn’t have any confidence in my skills,
i’ve never been much for realism or accuracy
but somewhere along the line i convinced myself
that there was so much potential in drawing
i could convey my ideas & aesthetic to a new extent
despite my lack of technical expertise in the medium
this series of drawings addresses so many important
themes and iconic images from my own personal mythology
things that have been lingering in my head & sketchbook
it was time to finally realize them, see them through
and overcome the fear of sharing them with the world
P.S. Check out the new SPLASH PAGE for my show!!

well the glamour of the holidays is finally wearing off
and the harsh light of reality has returned again
i have a solo show in 2 weeks and now
is the crazy time when everything is expected
to nicely fall into place and be a success
i’m kinda having some crazy christmas flashbacks
i always feel in a wild frenzy before christmas
worrying that i don’t have all my shopping/creating done
and then suddenly it all falls into place and
everyone’s smiling & celebrating the next day
fingers crossed for my opening…
i feel that this new body of work is nearing completion
but in some ways it’s hard to let go
i’ve been speaking in this ink & pastel language,
dealing with axes, electricity and horny birds,
thinking in bold shapes & colors for months
and now i’ve got to switch to
publicity, pricing and openings
speaking of openings…
