seed smacked open

the invasive myna bird overhead
insistently, obsessively, instinctively
pecks at the hanging green seed pod
in the tree above until a stem snap
drops it with a smack on the pooldeck
the essential last act that cracks it open

green skin gives way to raw yellow insides
offering up the focal/functional point of the seed
fanned on all sides by split circle shards,
the seed center speaks only in spiral
drawing one inward, hypnotized and lulled
until resigned & ready to do nature’s bidding
