about a boy

last night i saw a vision, a miracle even… it made me believe
what i saw was a stage adaptation of my favorite John Irving book,
A Prayer for Owen Meany at the Round House Theatre in Bethesda

this book captured my heart with a cast of amazing characters,
alternative approach to religion, and some of the most stunning and symbolic scenes that are permanently burned into my brain

this is precisely why i was all atingle and teary-eyed in my seat
as some of my most memorable literary moments
were conjured up and set against some amazing set design
and as any good adaptation, the story was true to the original
while infusing it with new life, vision & emotional color

as Owen Meany was launched up into the air in the
powerful climactic scene, i thought of another boy who is taking flight… a boy unlike any other, with impossible insight into life’s details, a boy who despite our doubts has consistently done the unthinkable, and will only continue to do so, a boy who singlehandedly changed my whole outlook on life…

i watch him rise up above the clouds, leaving my side
but there is a love and it never goes out…
